There’s been quite a few things happening up the club since
our last blog so here is a summary of what has been happening: -
Senior team update
As mentioned previously the new season is now underway.
Though sadly for our first and second teams it did not begin in the best of
fashion with both teams suffering defeats in their respective matches to
Fenton.
Our first XI were defeated by 116 runs after being bowled
out for 87 in reply to Fenton’s 203-7. Simon Gordon top scored with 31, while
fellow opener Nick Aitken made 21.
Whilst for the bowlers John Ashby, Roger Shenton and Simon
Gordon took two wickets apiece while Rob Bennett claimed the other.
After a promising start our second XI were bowled out for 51
inside 28 overs. With openers Matt Adams and Alex Berrisford making 17 and 10
respectively. Fenton reached their target easily in 9.4 overs in a ten wicket
win.
This weekend our first XI are at home to Leek Moorlands
(12:30pm start) while the second XI travel to Leek Moorlands (1:00pm).
The seconds also have a game away to Woore on Sunday in the
Talbot Shield, 1:00pm start.Senior Team captains
Since our last blog we have had to change captains for both
the first XI and second XI.
Mat Brazier will be our interim first XI captain until our
new signing Avtar Devgon is eligible to play. While Anthony Love a.k.a Crummer will
be our second XI captain for this season.I’m sure you’ll join me in wishing both Mat and Crummer all the best for the season.
Professional
Later this week we are hoping to confirm the signing of
Pakistani batsman Zeeshan Ali. Zeeshan currently plays for Lahore and is a very
capable top order batsman. We are unsure yet as to when Zeeshan will be available to play his first match for us, but we will keep you informed.
Junior Fixtures
Junior training is once again up and running on Friday
nights at the club and the new junior season is not far away.
Our Under 13’s begin their defence of the pairs league title
that they won last year with a home match to Oakamoor on Wednesday night. They
also return to regular league action on Sunday when they play away to Fenton.
We now have an Under 9’s team who will play their first
match of the season on Saturday at home to Whitmore.
While finally our Under 15’s start their season next Monday
when they play at home to Silverdale in the cup.
We would like to wish all of our junior players all the best
for their seasons and that they continue to build on the success and enjoyment
that they have gained over the last couple of seasons.
A full list of junior fixtures can be found on our play
cricket site http://bagnall.play-cricket.com
under the matches section.
Work at the clubAs some of you may know the February storms caused damage to the club house with the garage roof being the worst affected.
Work will be commencing very soon in order to get this
repaired, as well as work on fixing the leak in the away changing room.
On behalf of the committee I would like to thank all of the
members who have helped the club in getting ready for the season. From the
outfield being cut to preparing the nets and the general tidying up of the
club.
All of the work that has been completed has been superb and
it is much appreciated by the committee. Thank you.
Committee meetingOur next committee meeting is to take place on Tuesday 6th May at 8:00pm. All members are welcome to attend.
And finally
That’s it for this issue of the Bagnall blog. I hope that
